Buffalo are returning to Native American lands in Texas. A dozen of the animals now live on a 60-acre ranch in Hopkins County, about 90 miles northeast of Dallas. Ranch owner Theda Pogue is a member of the Muscogee Nation. She received the buffalo from a Nature Conservancy ranch in Colorado. The Nature Conservancy and a South Dakota nonprofit are working to place more than 700 buffalo on Native American lands nationwide this fall. The program also sent five buffalo to an Apache ranch in Waelder, an hour east of San Antonio.
