The U.S. has hit two facilities in eastern Syria in retaliation for attacks on U.S. forces by Iranian-backed militias. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said Thursday that the "self-defense strikes" were at President Biden's direction and carried out as a response to a series of attacks on U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria. Austin added that the U.S. "does not seek conflict" and does not intend to engage further.
