Just one month before the midterm elections, the battle for control of Congress still appears to be a toss-up. But you wouldn't know that by following the legacy media, which continue to push a narrative that Democrats are pulling away and headed for a blue wave. One particularly egregious report falsely claimed President Trump and Republicans are in an all-out panic about the election, so much that Trump is considering declaring martial law.
Back in the real world, the actual numbers tell a much different story. The latest Harvard-Harris poll, which is among the most reputable in the business, has Republicans and Democrats in a virtual tie on the generic ballot---among registered voters it is 50%-50% and among likely voters it is 51%-49% in favor of Democrats. The poll also shows only one-third of independents or independent-leaning voters say they have made up their mind on how they will cast their ballot.
Those numbers are a far cry from the 'blue wave' some so-called experts are predicting. "That's what the media does, the media is trying to discourage Republicans from getting out to vote and trying to encourage Democrats to vote, and it's not gonna happen," says Melinda Preston, GOP strategist with the Denton County Republican Party. "People are wiser than that, and I don't believe (Democrats) are going to get the numbers they think they're going to get."
The Harvard-Harris poll also debunks the reported Democrat "enthusiasm gap." It finds a virtually equal share of Democrats (63%) and Republicans (62%) consider it extremely important to vote in the midterms. That matches the findings of CNN's own data guru, that an equal share of Democrats and Republicans (71%) say they're certain to vote in this election.
Preston, who works on campaigns and voter outreach daily, says there is clear momentum for the GOP with just over four weeks to go. "We're seeing a lot of positives," she tells KTRH. "I think the Democrats are desperate and the mainstream media is very liberal, and they're going to pump all kinds of propaganda, and it's just not going to work."
"I think we're gonna win, and I'm excited about it."
