The race of US Senator from Texas is heating up as the Democrat goes on the offensive and the Republican plays it cool.
Democrat James Talarico says he's asking the courts to release documents from a civil case that he claims connects Republican Ken Paxton to claims of fraud.
Talarico, who's trying to become the first Democrat to be elected statewide in more than 30 years, made a Saturday night appearance with billionaire Mark Cuban in Fort Worth, where Cuban said of Talarico, "I believe in him."
The Republican, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, says he believes support coming from President Donald Trump and other politicians, including some funding groups, will help his campaign win the election, which is only 10 weeks away.
"I know they're going to be a part of this," Paxton said on Fox's "Sunday Briefing, "We can't coordinate on how much or what, but it's coming.
"I also think you're going to see resources coming from Republican senators, so I'm very optimistic," he added.
And in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, US senator from Texas Ted Cruz said he has confidence that Paxton will take the election.
"When the voters get into the fall, when they look at things just before election day, and when they look at Ken Paxton's record and they look at James Talarico's record, I think it'll be an easy choice, I think Ken Paxton will be the next senator from Texas."
Some polls show Talarico ahead of Paxton, which is causing excitement among Democrat leaders who are facing polarizing races across the country as they try to get far-left candidates elected.
But other polls, such as the Cook Political Report, have the two candidates essentially neck-and-neck.
Winning Texas -- any important statewide race in Texas -- has been a top priority of Democrats for many years, with sympathetic news sites publishing stories such as "Will This Be the Year That Texas Turns Blue?" with predictable regularity, but for just as many years it hasn't happened.
But the race to replace longtime US Senator from Texas John Cornyn, who lost the GOP primary, remains one of the most closely-watched races in the US this midterm election season.
