Electric Planes Test Pilot Programs Come to Texas

The newest trend in aviation is electricity -- electric planes, or e-planes as they're called.

The newest planes are continuing years of testing, and there are more tests underway these days on Galveston Island, where Scholes International Field will host experimental flights of Beta Technologies' latest all-electric aircraft.

"Electric aviation is really a game-changer for the industry," says the government affairs manager for e-plane designer and manufacturer Beta Technologies, Thea Wurzburg.

"It will bring increased accessibility for people all across the state" of Texas, she says, "and it's going to bring down costs"

The latest such planes utilize state-of-the-art batteries, some of which can power up a lot longer than many people think -- and the planes are being tested in Texas.

"The aircraft are going to be there and we're going to be working with the state and flying along with the state, and we're looking forward to it," she adds.
