The Trump administration has warned two San Antonio hospitals for failing to provide transparent pricing to patients. But they're not the only ones. All in all, 42 Texas hospitals have received warnings.
"It's throughout the entire health care industry, not just hospitals, but the insurance" said Dr. Cliff Porter, with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, which is pushing Texas lawmakers to take action.
"We want up front pricing and costs, throughout the entire system, including all the various middle men" Porter told KTRH, "Never pay the first bill, because it's just an effort to see how much money they can get out of people."
As most Texans, and Americans can attest, price transparency has become a real problem, especially when it results in sky high surprise bills.
"It's a convoluted, complex system" noted Dr. Porter, "We've got a lot of work to do, and a lot of people make a lot of money at it and they're not interested in any type of reform."
The TPPF hopes to see that action in the 2027 legislative session.
