Republican Pre-Midterms Convention Planned

President Donald Trump will be the featured speaker at a special Republican convention in Dallas this September, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The convention is expected to kick off the mid-term elections, will likely garner a lot of attention, and was announced by Paxton at a tele-town hall meeting on Tuesday.

The Republican National Committee has not yet made the official announcement of the event, which would be designed to take place after primary season but before the start of early voting, a point in the election cycle usually void of high-profile events.

So the list of speakers has not been announced, but with President Trump topping the bill, an all-star lineup is expected.

The event is expected to be more like a rally than the kind of presidential-year convention during which official party business is conducted, with the November elections likely to be highly competitive.

Democrats had considered a similar convention for this fall, but the party's lack of money made it prohibitive.
