Far left progressives picked up some key primary wins across the state. But many are raising the question, if Democrats really want to turn Texas 'blue', why do they keep choosing nominees that cannot win in November?
"Sometimes people would rather feel right and lose, than do something that's smart and winning" said Texas based political consultant, Bill Miller, "Progressives, or left of center Democrats, however you want to describe them, are winning these races and now they're going to try and sell themselves in a state that's uniformly conservative, with the exception of some urban areas. And that's a hard sell."
Not a great strategy for Democrats, who have not won a statewide election in Texas in over 30 years. But they are still running out James Talarico, Christian Menefee, Gina Hinojosa, and Letitia Plummer.
"If you look at the history of Texas and it's voting patterns, you really just can't be left of center and expect to win" Miller told KTRH, "You can hope to win, and they all do."
The last time a Democrat won a statewide race in Texas, was in 1994.
