Representative Chip Roy has introduced a new bill called the Mamdani Act, which could bring sweeping changes to who is allowed to enter and remain in the United States — and may even lead to the denaturalization of some individuals.
According to reporting by Newsmax, the bill would expand the Immigration and Nationality Act to include certain ideologies and political affiliations within its scope. It specifically targets various totalitarian ideologies.
Lora Ries of the Heritage Foundation says the legislation is designed to address the growing number of people living in the United States who remain loyal to anti-American ideologies. “We are seeing this in members of Congress, in various states and localities, and it is only going to become a growing threat,” she said.
According to Ries, many of the ideologies and affiliations targeted by the Mamdani Act are already covered under the Immigration and Nationality Act. However, that law contains so many exceptions and waivers that the provisions are largely ineffective.
She explained, “The Mamdani Act eliminates some of these waivers and exceptions related to Chinese communism, Marxism, and others.” Ries added that the recent rise of Islamism and Marxism in the United States has made it clear that the Immigration and Nationality Act is overdue for an update.
