Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales Officially Resigns from Congress

Just days before he faces a vote to expel him from Congress, Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales announced on Monday he is resigning. He submitted that resignation on Tuesday.

Gonzales has been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over alleged relationships with staffers. In one instance, a former staffer committed suicide through self-immolation.

He announced his dropping out of his primary runoff against Brandon Herrera for his seat last month. His Monday announcement comes just an hour after California Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell announced his resignation over allegations of sexual assault and harassment.

Gonzales has served Texas' 23rd District since 2021.
