A Los Angeles jury has ordered Meta (Facebook) and Google to pay $3 million following a ruling that they designed their products to be addictive but didn’t include proper warnings.
The ruling follows a nine-day trial and around 43 hours of jury deliberations. Meta is responsible for 70% of that $3 million judgment, while Google will have to pay the rest.
TikTok and Snapchat were also both named as defendants in this lawsuit but settled out of court ahead of the trial.
According to reporting from Fox News, Meta’s spokesperson has said that they disagree with the verdict and will be examining further options.
