The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLS&R) is intensifying efforts to maintain safety at its carnival after some violence broke out Saturday night.
Not only is RodeoHouston beefing up security efforts, but it's keeping an eye on social media looking for mentions by anyone who might consider starting trouble at the carnival or any aspect of the livestock show and rodeo.
Fights broke out Saturday night that frightened some carnival-goers Saturday night, prompting Houston police to move in and remove several people from the grounds around NRG Park, then rodeo officials decided to close the carnival at 10 pm, hours early than normal, out of "an abundance of caution."
There were no injuries reported at Saturday night's incident
On Monday, the HLS&R released this statement:
“Saturday night, fights occurred in the carnival area, causing some guests to run and create confusion. Out of an abundance of caution, the carnival closed early to prioritize the safety of our guests. Law enforcement and on-site security responded immediately.
"We hold daily meetings with law enforcement and are working with them on an elevated level. Law enforcement and the Rodeo are actively monitoring social media and deploying additional officers as needed. Together, we are taking proactive steps to help ensure this type of incident does not occur again and to maintain a safe environment for our guests."
