Just when you thought Trump Derangement Syndrome couldn't get any worse, the left is taking it down a new path. For years, they have used activist judges to thwart Donald Trump, now they're trying to create activist juries. A left-wing, George Soros-backed group called Freedom Trainers is training people on how to get on a federal jury, then instructing them to vote "not guilty" to any prosecution brought by the Trump DOJ. The group's training materials specifically tell trainees not to mention "jury nullification" during jury selection, but then to vote "not guilty for any reason you believe is just."
The group also tells people to lie during jury selection, with the instructions "don't signal an agenda" and "say you'll listen to the evidence before forming conclusions." Clearly they do have an agenda and have formed a conclusion before any evidence is presented. "This is jury rigging disguised as activism," says Texas State Rep. Briscoe Cain. "Jury nullification has been around since our founding, and sometimes it has even been used for good like with fugitive slave laws...but this is not individual conscience."
Cain warns this scheme would only further undermine faith in the justice system. "This isn't just about Donald Trump," he tells KTRH. "If it works in D.C. and blue strongholds, every federal prosecution becomes a coin flip."
"If conservatives pulled this stunt, the media would call it insurrection," he continues. "When the left is doing it, it's non-cooperation."
Efforts to rein in activist judges have yielded mixed results so far, but Cain warns we shouldn't let activist juries become a similar problem. "Congress, the DOJ, and state AGs need to investigate these groups, strengthen questioning during jury selection, and make it clear that conspiring to undermine the system will have real consequences," he says. "America works when the rules apply to everyone, even the activists who hate the outcome. And we've got to keep it that way."
