What a difference a few years makes. Democrats are now pushing back against the federal government and insisting states' rights be protected in places like Minnesota, after they fought against Texas on the same issue for four years. When Gov. Greg Abbott declared an invasion and launched Operation Lone Star to defend the state's borders, the Biden administration sued claiming only the federal government can enforce immigration laws. Now, Democrat-run states are suing the Trump administration because it is enforcing immigration law.
The shift is not lost on Gov. Abbott. "Hypocrisy is the word choice that really applies to them, because suddenly these states like Minnesota want to insist on states' rights," Abbott tells Fox News Digital. Abbott also notes the difference in what Texas did and what Dem states are doing now. "We were very simply trying to enforce the federal immigration laws that Joe Biden was refusing to enforce," he says. "What they're doing...is they are trying to interfere with the enforcement of the law."
Luke Macias, political commentator and podcast host, sees it a bit differently. "The reality is Democrats are incredibly consistent," he says. "They want states to stand down when borders are open and immigrants are flooding our nation, and they want the federal government to stand down when it comes to getting rid of all those individuals who are here illegally."
Macias believes that whether Democrats control a state or the federal government, their consistent loyalty is to open borders and lawlessness. "Four years ago the Biden administration said we are going to ignore federal law, and let people flood into our country," he tells KTRH. "Today, the Democrats in Minnesota are saying we are going to ignore federal law, and let all of these individuals stay, and let the chaos remain."
