President Trump campaigned hard on the issue of violent crime during the 2024 election, and it seems like he’s delivering. According to multiple reports—including one from Axios—violent crime, specifically murders, plummeted to nearly historic levels in 2025.

What’s shocking is how Axios originally reported the 2025 crime data, earning the ire of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The outlet initially said the plunge in crime was “despite Trump’s crackdown rhetoric.” Leavitt responded on X: “President Trump securing the border, mobilizing federal law enforcement to arrest violent criminals, and deporting the worst of the worst illegal aliens is EXACTLY what’s driving the massive drop in crime.”

Though the Axios headline had been changed as of publishing, this is being pointed to as an example of how the mainstream media refuses to give President Trump credit for his successes. Breitbart’s Bob Price echoed Leavitt’s words: “It doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s not ‘despite,’ it’s because of that! It’s just that the media doesn’t want to give him credit for anything.”

Price went on to say that while you shouldn’t be surprised that crime has fallen, the rate at which it fell is impressive. “The sheer volume of the drops is a testament to the fact that when you enforce the laws and empower law enforcement, it’s going to make a difference,” he explained.

This follows on the heels of a number of major economic successes for which President Trump has also received very little credit in the mainstream media. Price doesn’t expect that to change, saying: “It’s phenomenal the level of hypocrisy that’s going on. He could give $1,000 to a brand-new baby, and they’d ask, ‘Well, why isn’t it $2,000?’”
