Psyched Out: Dems Worried Trump Will Cancel Elections

It must be an election year, because Democrats are ramping up their apocalyptic rhetoric to an 11. The latest Dem talking point is that President Trump will try to cancel the election altogether. Trump recently joked that "we shouldn't have an election" and the legacy media ran with it, until he reassured them he was kidding. But many Democrats took the bait and are claiming Trump will manipulate the elections or call them off before this fall. The latest is South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn, who appeared on "The View" this week and said he's "absolutely worried" there won't be free or fair elections this year.

After host Ana Navarro raised the issue of gerrymandering and a Supreme Court voting rights case, Clyburn took it a step further, implying Trump and Republicans want to go back to the 1800s to repeal the abolition of slavery. "They were trying to set up a process to allow this country to return to what it was in 1876 when the election got thrown into the House of Representatives, and they were able to overturn what Abraham Lincoln and the Congress had done, to get rid of slavery," said Clyburn. "That is what they're attempting to do today."

Of course, Clyburn and Democrats ignore actual threats to our elections from the likes of China, all while pushing these bizarre conspiracies. Last week, "View" co-host Joy Behar said Trump wants to use violent anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis to declare martial law so he can cancel the election.

Critics see all of this as political theater. "(Clyburn) is going on the View, he's looking for clicks and attention, and he's giving those ladies---who are all liberal---exactly what they want.," says Christian Collins, founder of the Texas Youth Summit. "Of course they don't actually believe that."

"I don't think most Democrats think that Trump is actually going to try to cancel the election," he continues. "But they want to say things to infuriate their base and drum up fear amongst those they are trying to incite to turn out and vote in this midterm election."
