Blue What? Voters Still Prefer GOP on Most Issues

Democrats dreaming of a blue wave in the midterm elections may be feeling blue after they see the latest poll. A new survey of registered voters from the Wall Street Journal finds voters still trust the GOP over Democrats on most major issues. That includes border security (+28 points for Republicans), immigration (+11), the economy (+6), inflation (+6), foreign policy (+5), Russia-Ukraine (+4) and tariffs (+2). The only categories that favor Dems are vaccines (+9) and healthcare (+15).

The GOP's wins on individual issues are in spite of the poll showing a 4-point lead for Democrats in the generic Congressional ballot (47%-43%). Republican strategist Vlad Davidiuk says this demonstrates the disconnect between the facts and the larger media narrative. "(The legacy media) don't measure what people think, they don't talk to Americans to ask them how they really feel, they just try to gaslight them into believing the leftist agenda," he tells KTRH. "This is an example of that blowing up in their face."

Even the Wall Street Journal itself buries the issue numbers deep into the poll, instead focusing on President Trump's net negative job approval and the fact more voters blame him for the economy than Joe Biden. But the poll also shoots arrows into the narrative that Trump is bleeding support among his base. It finds that among those who voted for Trump in 2024, 92% still approve of his job and 70% "strongly approve." At the same time, the Democratic Party remains far more unpopular than Trump or the GOP, with Dems at a 19-point deficit (58% disapproval vs. 39% approval).

Davidiuk believes these numbers portend well for Republicans this fall, despite the historical trend that favors the party out of power in midterms. "Americans are behind President Trump and Republicans, not only because they support their priorities and policies, but because Democrats offer no real sane solution or alternative," he tells KTRH. "All Democrats can offer is a socialist takeover and more divisive politics that only serve to undermine our freedom."
