Cornyn Continues Push For Elusive Trump Endorsement

Senator John Cornyn is continuing his increasingly desperate bid to hold on to his Senate seat, recently taking a trip to the border and adopting a strong stance on border security and immigration.

During the trip, he pointed to his support for the border wall—despite previously questioning the project. Now, some are questioning his sincerity, including radio host Kenny Webster, who said of Cornyn: “He’ll say anything to get a vote. John Cornyn is from the old Republican Party. The amnesty, open-border Republican Party.”

Webster called out Cornyn for spending over 20 years representing Texas in the Senate and waiting until the 2026 election cycle to embrace the immigration-hawk “MAGA” wing of the GOP. “Cornyn is a guy who spent a lot of time helping people get into the country,” Webster said. “He was an advocate for importing more refugees from Afghanistan.”

So why did Cornyn—who as recently as 2023 said that President Trump’s time had “passed him by”—make this shift? Webster says the answer is simple: Cornyn wants President Trump’s endorsement, which could be the key to winning a race that appears to be slipping farther and farther away from him by the day.

Webster doesn’t think this late-stage change of heart will be enough for Cornyn to clinch the Trump endorsement, however. “The only way John Cornyn is going to be able to get an endorsement from Donald Trump is if he’s the deciding vote on something taking place in the Senate that could make or break Donald Trump’s entire presidency,” he explained.

As of right now, nothing like that seems to be coming down the pipeline—which means Cornyn will likely have to face down Rep. Wesley Hunt and Attorney General Ken Paxton, both long-time allies of the MAGA movement, completely alone.
