In the second federal-involved shooting in as many days, the Department of Homeland Security says Customs and Border Protection officers (CBP) were involved on Thursday in a shooting that wounded two people.
DHS says the incident began as a targeted traffic stop of what CBP believed to be a Venezuelan illegal alien with ties to the gang Tren de Aragua. According to the department, the suspect then used the vehicle as a weapon and drove toward officers, which led to defensive shots being fired.
Both people in the vehicle were treated by police on scene but their conditions are unknown. No agents were injured.
This follows a fatal shooting in Minneapolis on Wednesday, when a woman rammed her car at an ICE agent, and was killed.
