It's Deadline Day for Candidates to File for the March Primaries

Today is deadline day here in Texas, as candidates must file the official paperwork, if they want to be on the ballot for the March primaries, and then next year's midterms.

Although the biggest bit of news already happened last week, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Texas can use the Trump-backed, Republican redrawn congressional map.

"The map is in place for next year, the new map that is a projected 5 seat pick up for Republicans" said Brad Johnson, senior reporter with The Texan.

And so now that we know where all of the districts are, the big question now is, who is going to run?

"The biggest decision we're waiting on from a politician is whether Jasmine Crockett, congresswoman from Dallas, is going to jump into the U.S. Senate race" Johnson told KTRH.

Crockett has a news conference scheduled for 4:30pm, to make an announcment.

"It's hard to see her hosting an announcement just to say she's running for re-election to a congressional seat" noted Johnson.

The filing deadline is at 6pm, and overall there are 37 seats up for grabs in federal and state elections, here in Texas.
