There have been some internet attacks lately that have proven devastating to some companies, notably "Cloud-flare," which saw the loss of its internet servers affect OpenAI's ChatGPT, e-commerce platform Shopify and Elon Musk's social media platform X.
But there's a strong probability that such outages will continue and even get worse, and one of the reasons is AI.
"I think artificial intelligence, AI, is really increasing the complexity and the customization and the kind of scale that fishing attacks can encompass," according to Ronnie Manning, the brand specialist at security company Yubico.
There are new security systems being put to work all the time because Silicon Valley is cognizant of the need for better protection against hacks and phishing attacks.
But with phishing attacks coming up against American systems from places all around the world, it's sometimes like swimming against the current.
"The speed and agility that fraudulent phishing attacks are occurring is only going to increase," he says.
But it's important to remember that plenty of good working systems are already in place in America, more protective systems are on the way, and the systems have done well overall in protecting the internet.
"If someone were to put up a fake log-in page or something like that, the authentication technology today is enough to block those phishing attempts," Manning says.
