The Mavericks have officially announced the departure of GM Nico Harrison, saying in a press release, "Dallas Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont today announced that the organization has relieved Nico Harrison of his role as general manager and president of basketball operations, effective immediately."
Rumors of the move began spreading early this morning thanks to NBA Insider Shams Charania reporting that, "The Mavericks are firing Harrison nine months after the jarring and stunning Luka Doncic trade – a move for which Dumont took accountability and accepted as a mistake in a court-side interaction with a fan on Monday night."
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Tuesday that the Mavs firing general manager Nico Harrison "is regarded as imminent and could happen as soon as today," which would end the four-plus-season tenure for Harrison
Dumont said in the official announcement that, “This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization, one that delivers for our players, our partners, and most importantly, our fans."
The Mavericks are 3-8 this season, and play the Phoenix Suns Wednesday night.
