The legacy media only recently admitted they were wrong about President Donald Trump's tariffs, but they're still pushing the narrative that prices are rising for American families. Are they really? Not so much, says one new analysis. DoorDash's State of Local Commerce report actually shows prices for many household goods are flat or falling. In fact, one of the five key takeaways listed in the report is "prices steadying across everyday essentials." The report cites DoorDash's "Breakfast Basics Index"---which includes three eggs, milk, a bagel, and and avocado---as down 14% since March. The biggest driver in that decline is egg prices, down 85% since hitting historical highs last spring.
But the savings go beyond eggs and breakfast items. The report also notes declines this year in computers, phone accessories, toys and games, laundry items, toothpaste, and outdoor equipment. In many other categories, prices are essentially flat this year.
This report paints a picture far different than the doom-and-gloom "affordability crisis" narrative pushed by Democrats and the liberal media. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent set the record straight in a recent interview with Fox Business. Bessent noted how far the Trump administration has come in less than a year. "Under the Biden administration, the inflation rate was at 21-22 percent, but the average basket of goods and services that a working family bought was up into the 30s," he said. "So we have brought down inflation."
Indeed, the annual inflation rate has now dropped to around three percent, and has remained largely flat for months. "Inflation came down in April for the first time in four years, under President Trump," Bessent continued. "So the first thing was to bring down the rate of change, and we're going to continue to bring it down."
President Trump has also touted a decline in energy prices, which has led to cheaper costs for gas, home heating, and electricity. And just in time for Thanksgiving, Walmart announced its Turkey Day meal for 10 people has declined from an average of $7 per person to $4 per person. That prompted headlines of Make Thanksgiving Great Again.
