'Running Cover': Nehls Blasts Media Coverage of Shutdown

As the federal government shutdown reaches the five-week mark and a record length, Republicans are growing increasingly frustrated, not only with Democrats for repeatedly blocking a clean funding extension, but for how the legacy media is allowing the Dems to keep getting away with it. "The Fake News Media is running cover for the flailing Democrat Party that owns this shutdown," wrote Congressman Troy Nehls (R-TX) on social media last week. Nehls wrote that as he blasted CNN for canceling his scheduled appearance on their show The Situation Room Friday morning to discuss the shutdown and its impact. He noted the network canceled his hit due to what they said was "breaking news." "I believe the real reason is they don't want to give airtime to someone who will expose the TRUTH about the shutdown," he wrote.

Nehls tells KTRH he found CNN's last-minute cancellation very suspicious. "I've been on their program before and they know I'm just a straight shooter," he says. "I was going to tell them if you think you can blame one person...don't blame the Republican Party for what's happening in our aviation industry with the shutdown. Then you've got TSA, and it's going to continue to get worse for the traveling public, because Chuck Schumer, and Chuck Schumer alone, does not care."

Congressman Nehls points to the media for recent national polls showing 4-in-10 Americans blame Republicans for the shutdown, despite the fact that Democrats have voted 14 times to block a funding bill that would have ended it. "To think that the dishonest media has got 40-percent of America believing that Republicans are at fault for shutting down the government, causing all these disruptions and delays at our airport? My God, these people should be smarter than that...but obviously, they're not."
