Israel struck against Hamas in the Gaza Strip after what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an unprovoked attack.
The Prime Minister said he was informed on Tuesday of a violation of the October 10th peace arrangement and immediately ordered "powerful strikes" against Hamas targets, though few details have emerged from Tuesday's incident so far.
He added that Hamas had already defied the agreement when the terrorist group attacked Israeli Defense Force soldiers in Rafah earlier this month.
The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, went into effect on October 10th.
Netanyahu earlier on Tuesday said he was alarmed at "another" breach of trust, when Hamas turned over to Israel the remains of bodies that were not among the 13 deceased hostages who are still unaccounted for.
The remains were intended to be part of an arrangement in which Israel and Hamas traded hostages, and the remains of those killed.
