Over the last decade, people have just generally lost their way. Whether that be in their careers, socially, or in their religion, people have lost faith in all aspects of life. Especially after the ridiculous COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in people being locked in their homes for a year over an illness akin to the common flu.
Combine that with the surge in crime and political violence, and you have a society desperately looking for anything positive to grasp. So, now people are going back to the tried-and-true days of religion and rekindling their faith. Now, we are seeing a huge uptick in people saying religion is gaining influence in their life.
In 2024, just 18-percent of U.S. adults said religion was gaining influence in American life. Just a year later in 2025, that number is up to 31-percent. The latter being the highest figure in the last 15 years.
Jonathan Saenz of Texas Values says surprisingly, it is not the older people responsible for the resurgence.
"A lot of this trend is coming from the younger generation, like Gen Z and millennials...which is encouraging," he says. "But I am not sure we know exactly why."
A big part of it, as mentioned, is the general negativity we have been presented in the last ten to fifteen years. It started with the Ferguson riots in 2016, and from there, things have gotten progressively uglier, violent, and chaotic. There is no sign it is slowing down anytime soon either, as Democrats continue pushing their hateful rhetoric.
Funny enough, the more the radical Left tries pushing their hated, which they delusionally think is a legitimate platform, the worse it gets for them.
"There has been a lot of conflict, and a swing to the far Left in some circumstances...where people have been left to wonder what you can count on, and what is truth...and a lot of people are looking for that," says Saenz.
The sad thing is people have been scared to express their faith. Because people on the Left tend to demonize it, and if you are not in line with their thinking, they call you a fascist. If you even mention the Bible, they call you a Nazi and refuse to argue. Either because they are not smart enough to do so or live in such a state of ignorance they cannot do so.
But thankfully, the Supreme Court has stepped in multiple instances recently to ensure religious freedoms. One case involved a coach simply taking a knee to pray after a football game, for which he was fired. SCOTUS stepped in and protected him.
Their actions are what helps drive this bump as well.
"Those things signal to people their rights and freedoms are there and protected...and I do think that can have an impact on people exercising them more," Saenz says.
In a culture that has lost its direction, both mentally and spiritually, this can be the start of turning things around and getting back to decency.
