Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Blocks 12th Try To Reopen Government

Another week, another failed attempt to reopen the federal government. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday blocked the 12th attempt at funding the government.

The latest vote failed 54-46 vote, with the bill needing 60 votes to pass. The latest failed vote comes as Sen. Schumer demanded another meeting with President Donald Trump and on the heels of an almost 24-hour filibuster by Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore, that pushed the vote late into Wednesday.

President Trump says the Democrats "lost the negotiation," and that he will only meet with Schumer "when he reopens the government."

The Senate will try again tomorrow, as the shutdown drags beyond four weeks.
