Lawfare has struck again in Chicago, with a local judge recently blocking ICE agents from arresting illegal aliens at courthouses. This is now being described as not just lawfare, but as an outright judicial coup against Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This lawfare is being called out for the increased public risk it's creating. Breitbart's Bob Price pointed out, "This judge, just like other sanctuary officials, is forcing ICE agents to be out on the streets arresting criminal illegal aliens."
He points out that if ICE agents were able to take illegal aliens into custody in the safety of courthouses, or even jails, the risk to everyone, including the risk to the detainees being arrested, would be significantly lower. Unfortunately, due to sanctuary city and state policies, that's not possible in many parts of the country.
Price went on to call these actions, along with those of other judges, abuses of power, saying, "They're just trying to put handcuffs on all of our federal law enforcement officials, to keep them from doing the job that Congress has authorized and ordered them to do."
He also warned that this could just be the beginning of the lawfare against ICE, hinting that we might see action taken against individual ICE agents the next time Democrats are in power. He said, "Governor Pritzker, you're seeing him saying, 'We know who you are, we're paying attention, and we're going to use lawfare as a means of punishing you for following the lawful orders of a duly elected POTUS.'"
