National teachers' unions like the AFT and the NEA, which are the country's two largest teachers' unions, have been criticized for years for being too woke. Now there's finally another option for teachers opposed to far-left politics.
A think tank known as the Freedom Foundation has launched the new Teachers Freedom Alliance, which is meant to be a more conservative alternative for those who don't want to funnel their money into left-wing causes.
Ryan Walters, who works with the Texas Freedom Alliance, explained that they offer teachers "professional development around academics, liability insurance, and the ability to have the training to be great teachers, without the woke ideology and without the union politics."
Corey DeAngelis, a Senior Fellow with the American Culture Project, who has been an outspoken opponent of teachers' unions, says this is a great alternative, especially when you consider their $2 million liability insurance.
DeAngelis explained that most unions only offer a $1 million policy. He added that with the $2 million Teachers Freedom Alliance policy, "That insurance is being covered by donors, so there is now no cost for teachers who are opting out of the unions."
He went on to say that this will end up being a great alternative for more conservative or even politically moderate to neutral teachers. He pointed out that, "At the end of the day, the teachers' unions, the NEA and the AFT, are basically a money-laundering operation for the Democratic Party."
DeAngelis thinks having competition from the Teachers Freedom Alliance might finally put an end to the overt partisanship from those unions and force them to look out for the best interests of teachers and students instead of Democratic elected officials.
