Issues From Where Harris County Commissioners' Campaign Dollars Come From?

A new 'report' from the Houston Chronicle found that the majority of Harris County Commissioner's campaign dollars come from those who get their contracts with the city approved.

"Simply the fact that they're getting the money I don't think is in and of itself the problem because the average person isn't really too concerned about a Commissioner's Court race" said Charles Blain, president of Urban Reform, "They might be concerned enough to vote, but they're not going to be concerned enough to give, and not in a large amount."

Still, with that said, it's not a great look.

"It is legal, it looks dirty, and sometimes it is" Blain told KTRH, "But it's legal, and it's a hard one to navigate.'

Not so for Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. The lone Republican on Harris County Commissioner's Court has offered full transparency, while calling the report offensive, and "clickbait".

The real problem however that the article fails to point out, is the lack of accountability for the contracts that are awarded, and who gives them out.

"A lot of the big rewards in the county, and who is not doing jobs that are up to par with what the community wants, but yet they continue to get repeat jobs? I think that's when you start to question things, and we've seen a lot of that with some of the Democratic Commissioner's on Harris County Commissioner's Court" noted Blain.
