Even though this hurricane season has been mild thus far, according to a new report from our tv partner KPRC channel 2, Houston still had the dubious honor of having the highest frequency of power outages in the U.S. for the month of August.
"We get a lot of complaints about CenterPoint, and their outages" said Naomi Klinge, energy reporter for the Houston Business Jornal, "This has been going on for a long time, none of this is necessarily new."
It is not new, but it has been a year since the Hurricane Beryl debacle. So the big question is, who's to blame for these continuing power outages across Houston?
"I think we have to recognize there are likely many, many factors that play into outages in Houston" Klinge told KTRH, "Certainly, CenterPoint is going to be in charge of the transmission lines and the distribution, but we also have to look at ERCOT."
It's also worth noting that CenterPoint has committed to spend $65 billion in upgrades, but we literally have to take it one year at a time, and one storm at a time to see how effective the changes really are.
Meanwhile, experts say the frequent power outages in Houston are 'abnormal'.
