What Will A Government Shutdown Mean For You?

Thanks to the Senate Democratic minority blocking a GOP funding bill, we're officially in a government shutdown. The biggest question now is, how will that shutdown affect everyday Americans?

The answer to that question depends primarily on how long the shutdown actually lasts. Economist Christian Briggs with Americans for Limited Government explained, "I think 7-10 days would have minimal disruption in people's lives, but if you start going 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 30 days, that's disruption."

Briggs warned that things could get really bad if a deal isn't struck within around 60 days, saying, "What you have to look at is the critical infrastructure of the United States and how the government puts forward all of this program. Some of these are not going to get paid."

He compared the shutdown and interruption of federal services to state government services like getting a driver's license, saying, "You think it was bad then? You just wait till we shut it down and see how bad things are. If it lasts longer than a couple of weeks, you're going to have chaos."

Briggs did say that Trump is right to deny the Democrats' demand for over a trillion dollars of new spending for illegal alien health care, pointing out that we are already nearing $38 trillion of national debt. He says it would be outright irresponsible for Trump to give in to Senator Chuck Schumer's demands.

He also believes that the American voters are going to see through this political posturing from the Democrats and hold Schumer and the Democrats accountable for shutting down the government.
