Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is once again raising concerns about the many states that aren't complying with CDL licensing requirements. This might come as a surprise, but one of those states is Texas.
John Esparza with the Texas Trucking Association says one of the biggest reasons for Texas' noncompliance is a surge in fraud and abuse. He explained the issues are coming from "those who are purchasing licenses online or obtaining licenses from Mexico to use and abuse the reciprocity."
The good news is, Texas is hard at work to correct these issues. Esparza says that under the Trump administration and with added attention from the governor, "There's going to be attention paid to all of the provisions within the federal regulations; we might even see some changes to how one obtains a CDL."
We've already seen changes to who can obtain a CDL, with an announcement coming from Texas DPS on Monday that those living in the United States with refugee status or illegal aliens who were recipients of the DACA program will no longer be able to receive CDLs in Texas.
