New Medicine Discount Site Announced By Trump Administration

The Trump administration Tuesday announced a new prescription plan for Medicare and Medicaid to be called TrumpRx, which will include commitments from pharmaceutical giant Pfizer to sell prescription drugs at discount prices.

Pfizer says it will offer discounts on drugs to consumers, too, as part of a plan that will lead to Americans "paying whatever the lowest price is," as President Donald Trump put it.

He said the goal of the program is to put an end to the drug company practice of charging Americans considerably more for prescription drugs than are charged patients in other countries.

The website is to be administered by the federal government, but drug companies are expected to offer discounted prescription drugs there.

President Trump offered no deadline on which the website will open, but emphasized it will be soon.
