Texas Democrats Move To Dallas Ruffling Feathers Among Establishment

Democrats on the national scale have been floundering since November 2024, and Texas has been no exception. The Texas Democrats have become as unhinged as their national counterparts, carrying the same level of turmoil and uncertainty. Now, they have caused even more discord within the state's party by moving the party headquarters from Austin to Dallas.

The move was done by Texas Democrat arty Chair Kendall Scudder, who is a Dallas native. The move has prompted an exodus of staff from the party, including the executive director, chief of staff, and two communication staffers. They left after Scudder required them to move to Dallas by November or be laid off. A total of seven staffers are expected to quit over the move.

Andy Hogue of the Travis County GOP says this move was rumored for a while, and it has caused more fractures in the party.

"There has been an exodus of staffers who did not want to move to Dallas...it has become obvious that the new chair is more of a populist Democrat," he says.

The other thing for Scudder here is he is a Dallas native and resides there. Moving the party headquarters to Dallas drastically shortens any commute he would have to make. So, on a level, it is a selfish move to simply shorten his own commute.

But leaving Austin is not necessarily some shock. The city has been reeling from disastrous democrat policies in recent years. The party likely fled the city to save their own face.

"Maybe they saw the failures of the socialist regime in Austin...and thought it was making them look bad. So, they move to Dallas, where there are still some Republicans in power...so they can take credit where they can," says Hogue.

The party will also have outposts and offices still in Austin, as well as Houston, Eagle Pass and Amarillo. It is their effort at being grassroots and trying to relate to Texans as a whole.

That is the big whale for the Democrats. They have lost touch with what Texans want, and as a result, have failed to win statewide office since 1992. This move to Dallas fractures the party further and puts them no closer to achieving any goal of state office.

"If you really want to flip Texas...move the state Democrat headquarters to Lubbock," Hogue says. "Put your thumb on the pulse of what makes a Texas Republican's heartbeat."

It is just the latest in a long string of internal discord for the Democrat party.
