There is a property tax revolt spreading across the U.S., and it's making it's way here to Texas, where property taxes keep going up even though laws are passed to bring them down.
"What most people need to know is that ultimately it's government greed that is driving your property tax bill up" said James Quintero, policy director with the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
The reality is, the property tax hikes have nothing to do with rising inflation or an increase in home values.
"Spending is the real problem in the property tax crisis that we're all facing" Quintero told KTRH, "And to fuel these activist agenda's, they're imposing very heavy burdens on all property owners. Not just here in the lone star state, but nationwide."
When the county budget goes up, so do property taxes.
"Government spending is the real source of the problem, it's not rates, it's not values, it's not anything else. It's government spending that's behind it all" noted Quintero.
And it's something that Texas lawmakers are going to have to deal with and address, during next year's legislative session.
