The US House passes a stopgap spending bill 217-212 to avert a potential government shutdown. The bill now goes to the Senate.

If the Senate passes it, Congress will have seven weeks to get another deal done before the government runs out of money. The measure the House just approved beats a deadline of September 30th,

House Speaker Mike Johnson was the driving force behind the temporary spending plan, telling Fox News yesterday that they just need more time to get a comprehensive plan done.
