The left has continually claimed that the GOP, especially the MAGA wing of the Republican Party, doesn't want any immigration at all. The fact of the matter is, many Republicans fully support legal immigration, despite pushing for harsh consequences for illegal immigrants who break the law.
Many have gone out of their way to point out the obvious risks of failing to enforce immigration law, namely the other crimes that tend to follow open border policies. Cuban immigrant and writer for the American Thinker Silvio Canto Jr. elaborated on these concerns, saying, "You end up creating problems like fake documentation and those kinds of things."
He added that without the protections immigrants get from going through the legal process, they often become victims of labor law violations. He pointed to a recent example of this, saying, "We had a situation in California where they went into a farm, a marijuana farm, and they found minors working on this farm! What an embarrassment."
Canto did admit that the legal process is tedious and takes time, but he says for those who work through it, in the end, it's usually worth it. According to Canto, "Most of these people who come in legally go through the process, and eventually they come in, and 99.99% of them are extremely good additions to the country."
He also addressed left-wing concerns about how militarized the border enforcement effort appears to have become, and he says that's not a symptom of Trump's anti-illegal immigration policies; rather, it's the result of open border policies and sanctuary states, which are refusing to arrest often violent criminal illegal aliens.
