Governor Greg Abbott is coming down hard on educators accused of celebrating the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The Texas Education Agency says more than 100 teachers are now under investigation for social media posts that praised either his death or called for violence. Abbott condemned the behavior as “abhorrent” and made it clear that teachers who glorify violence have no place in Texas schools.
Education Commissioner Mike Morath says while free speech matters, there’s a line between poor taste and inciting violence, and these teachers crossed it. He’s recommending their certifications be suspended, barring them from ever teaching in a Texas classroom again. Districts aren’t waiting, Klein ISD has already fired one teacher, and Wylie ISD confirmed at least two resignations after public backlash.

While investigations continue, the governor and education leaders are making it clear that celebrating violence against conservatives won’t be tolerated in Texas classrooms.
