The good news for Harris County, there is still money available for flood maintenance. The bad news is, they're having a hard time finding workers to get the jobs done.
"It requires some pretty skilled workers, so to get to that level is going to take a little time. That's not an excuse, it's just a fact" said Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner, Tom Ramsey.
Last year, Harris County voters approved to allocate $100 million for much needed flood maintenance.
"The good news is, during this year where we don't have all the workers on board yet, we've invested those dollars in actually doing flood maintenance repairs using contractors" Ramsey told KTRH.
Some are concerned that it might be too little too late, if another big storm hits.
"It never happens soon enough, but give us a couple of years and we're going to be in a lot better shape than even today" noted Ramsey.
The Commissioners also approved creating 54 new positions for flood maintenance work, but so far only 22 of them have been filled.
