A report in the Texas Tribune says Governor Greg Abbott will sign an executive order regulating products with THC.
The Texas Tribune cited three sources that spoke to Governor Abbott's office. The order would also set a minimum age of 21 to buy those products in Texas.
This comes after lawmakers passed a ban on THC products in the regular session of the legislature, a bill that was vetoed by the Governor. He favored regulation. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick wanted a total ban. The issue failed to get done in the first two special sessions Abbott called this summer.
The question is whether or not this order means that the Governor would not be calling a third special session. If that is the case, that would mean property tax relief, another agenda item in August, would remain unresolved until lawmakers meet again in 2027.
