President Trump's crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., appears to have been successful, with crime rates in the city dropping significantly in just a few weeks.

Now Trump is looking to expand that operation to other high-crime cities across the United States, with a particular focus on the city of Chicago, which has been known for its issues with violent crime.

Despite the success of Trump's efforts, the Democrats who run both Chicago and the state of Illinois have vocally pushed back against the idea of Trump making their cities safe again.

There have been rallies and protests in Chicago for days against the idea, with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson attending and speaking at one such event. At the rally, he appeared to call for resistance against law enforcement when he said, "Are you prepared to defend this land? This land that was built by slaves, a land that was built by indigenous people, a land that was built by workers. Are you prepared to defend this land?"

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has also spoken out against law enforcement efforts, even going as far as to deny that Chicago has a crime problem, despite over 50 people being shot in the city during Memorial Day weekend alone.

Trump is reportedly planning to deploy over 300 federal agents from multiple agencies to the city in the coming days. They’re expected to stage at Great Lakes Naval Station, which has also become a protest site for some activists.
