Texas Governor Greg Abbott has officially directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to begin "strictly enforcing" President Trump's English language proficiency requirements for commercial truck drivers.
This comes after a number of high-profile 18-wheeler accidents involving illegal alien drivers, including an incident in Florida that resulted in three deaths.
Governor Abbott said in a press release about the order, "Every commercial driver license operator on Texas roadways must be able to communicate clearly in English to ensure compliance with traffic laws, follow safety directions, and prevent accidents."
Texas DPS troopers and vehicle inspectors will now begin conducting English language proficiency reviews for all commercial license operators. According to the governor's office, action has already been taken against around 445 commercial drivers in Texas since Trump's executive order.
