The new school year is underway, and new data shows that around 1 in 4 school districts across Texas have implemented the Bible-backed 'Bluebonnet' curriculum.
"It based on feedback from teachers who said they did not have materials" said Sherry Sylvester, senior policy director with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, "The controversy around it is actually ridiculous."
But it is out there, with the radical fighting against any Biblical references or history, while pushing for more drag shows in front of young children.
"The Bluebonnet curriculum is a cutting edge approach to improving, what is going on in the classrooms" Sylvester told KTRH.
More than 300 of the state's 1,207 districts are using the state created curriculum, but here in the Houston area, only the Conroe ISD has adopted it.
"It's going really smoothly" said Conroe ISD board member, Melissa Semmler, "We've got a lot of really great rigorous course materials rolled out that our students are doing a great job learning from, and our teachers are doing a great job teaching."
In addition to the Conroe ISD, the Fort Bend and Spring Branch ISD's are sampling parts of the curriculum. The state is scheduled to release updated data numbers this fall.
