Abbott & Kennedy: MAHA Hits The Texas Capitol

Governor Greg Abbott was joined at the state capitol in Austin by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to announce and celebrate the passing of new 'MAHA' legislation, 'Make America Healthy Again', and in our case making Texas healthier.

Governor Abbott signed 3 bills into law. Senate Bill 25, which requires clear labeling on packaged food products that contain ingredients that are banned in many other countries. SB 14 prohibits schools that participate in the national school lunch and breakfast program from serving foods with additives that are linked to disease and obesity. And then finally, SB 379 that prohibits SNAP benefits from being used to buy sweetened drinks and candy.

"These are bipartisan laws that I am proud to sign in effect" Abbott said, "Taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund chronic health problems in our state."

HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had some even stronger words.

"We're doing something horrible to our children" Kennedy said, "I told President Trump that we are going to end the chronic disease epidemic, we can't do it from Washington."

Governor Abbott and RFK Jr. will be together tomorrow for another press conference on rural healthcare.
