Attorney General Victory Over "Beto"

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says he's scooped up another victory over perennial candidate Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke and the organization O'Rourke heads called Powered By People.

Monday's court victory for the AG follows action by a federal judge in Texas two weeks ago that granted a temporary restraining order against O'Rourke based on claims that "Beto" was misleading Democrat political donors by soliciting money to get candidates elected.

But the Attorney General contended in a motion that O'Rourke's group was then using that money to pay for expenses and hotels after Texas Democrats fled the state to thwart a redistricting plan for state US House of Representatives maps.

After an El Paso court last week "falsely claimed to have the authority to exercise jurisdiction over a Tarrant County court," Attorney General Paxton said his office challenged the El Paso court, restoring jurisdiction to Tarrant County. .

Now Paxton's effort to revoke the charter of O'Rourke's Powered by People and shut it down will move forward in the proper court venue, he said.
