Texas Congressman Chip Roy may be gunning for a new job in Austin. Reports out of Washington say he’s considering a run for Texas State Attorney General next year. The AG job will be up for grabs in 2026 because Attorney General Ken Paxton is running for the U.S. senate.

Roy has represented central Texas 21s congressional district since 2019.

Roy told The Hill “I’m always considering where I can best serve the people I represent to ensure we preserve and protect a free, secure, and prosperous Texas for generations to come.”

The AG gig would be familiar territory for Roy. He was named as Paxton’s first assistant attorney general back in 2014.

There’s already competition for the job. A former aide to Paxton and Trump administration official Aaron Reitz has announced he’s running. So have state Senators Mayes Middleton and Joan Huffman.
