It's A Tax Free Weekend For Back To School Items In Texas

With back to school almost here, the 26th annual Texas sales tax holiday for back to school supplies is underway for this weekend.

Most school supplies, along with certain articles of clothing, and electronics, are exempt from state sales tax. But the items have to be -under- $100.

"The savings is for school supplies and apparel priced at less than $100" said Texas based financial expert, Bill Dendy, "But it doesn't qualify for specialty apparel items for sports, like shoulder pads for football or cleats for baseball."

Computers and textbooks are also not exempt, but enough items are to make it the perfect time to do that back to school shopping.

"With the average household spending $400 tp $500 per child getting ready for school, we're talking about a significant household savings just for the sales tax" Dendy told KTRH, "But when you add on the retailers additional sales on top of that, it's going to be a really good time to go shopping."

Several stores are adding additional savings to bring in shoppers, and you can also place orders on-line. The holiday ends at midnight on Sunday.
