Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is announcing that his office has successfully defended Texas' voter ID requirements for mail-in ballots, as well as vote-by-mail applications.
The voter ID requirements were part of the election security package passed by the state legislature in 2021, which was challenged by leftists who claimed it somehow violated the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The rule officially went into effect in 2023, and now the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has issued an opinion that defends the legality of the voter ID requirement.
Paxton praised the ruling in a press release, saying, "Voter ID is one of the most crucial tools in the battle against election fraud, and I’m pleased to see the court affirm our fundamental right to defend the integrity of our democratic process."
He went on to say that his office will "aggressively" enforce the requirement as part of his efforts to ensure that Texas elections remain secure.
