They're calling it "common sense" -- proponents of Texas' "Women's Privacy Act" spoke at the Texas Capitol on Monday, calling it essential to women's rights.
The proposed act, Senate Bill 7 now under consideration during a special session of the state legislature, bases access to school and government bathrooms on birth sex rather than notions of gender identity.
"These are boundaries that have existed for generations, and they're boundaries based on biological truth," said District 11 state Senator Mayes Middleton at a Monday news conference.
"What this bill does is, it restores those boundaries and makes them enforceable."
Sen. Middleton said he's grateful for the support the bill has received so far, and is happy to see that support continuing to grow as work gets underway to get it passed in the Senate and then the state House.
